A FERRY transporting 277 passengers from Arran collided with Winton pier while attempting to berth at Ardrossan Harbour in strong winds on Tuesday evening.

A CalMac spokesman said when the MV Caledonian Isles was entering the harbour the weather deteriorated and a 55mph gust of wind blew the vessel into the pier.

"She was tied up while the Master waited for the wind to drop to allow her to berth, which she did about an hour later, and passengers and vehicles were able to disembark. No-one was injured."
