REMEMBERING HMS DASHER
SOLEMN ceremony mixed with social occasion once again at the weekend as the 69th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Dasher was marked in and around Ardrossan.
Dasher families, The Royal British Legion (Scotland), the HMS Dasher (1943) Association, elected representatives and community groups all came together to remember the night of March 27, 1943 when the aircraft carrier went down in the Firth of Clyde with great loss of life following an accident.
The modern-day HMS Dasher sailed into Ardrossan for the memorial weekend, and Lieutenant-Commander Conor O'Neil and Lieutenant Mark Heward, who commands the Dasher, and crew members from the ship and from HMS Pursuer played a major part in the weekend's ceremonies.
