'HOSPITALS NEED POLICE PROTECTION'

THE head of the nursing union has called for disruptive patients to be treated by casualty surgeons in police stations.

Irene O'Neill, General Secretary of the Independent Federation of Nursing in Scotland, has also urged health boards to pay for a permanent police presence in hospital A&E units.

She said: "There is a police presence in A&E at larger hospitals such as Glasgow Royal Infirmary, but it is may be something that others should look at."
