A SALTCOATS family has proved charity is in the blood after two relatives were selected to carry the Olympic Torch this summer.

Chaplain John Hamilton and his niece Tesco Community Champion Sharon De Silva were nominated to carry the famous flame a half mile on Sunday, July 22 and Sunday, July 8 respectively.

Sharon, 24, said it was 'unusual' that they were both chosen. She added: "It's unusual for two people from the same family to be doing something like this.
