MEMORIAL SERVICE PAYS TRIBUTE TO LEGION MAN'S DAD
A THREE Towns war veteran attended a re-dedication ceremony at the Millport war memorial over the weekend in memory of his father and servicemen who were killed in conflict.
Alastair Kennedy, President of the Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Stevenston and Largs Royal British Legion, revisited his birthplace on the island on Sunday in remembrance of his father John who was one of many servicemen commemorated in the memorial who are without known graves.
Speaking with the Herald this week Alastair said: "I was born in 1939 and bred in Millport. My dad, John, was in the Royal Navy and in 1943 he went on a convoy to Africa. On the way they stopped near Millport and he came ashore to visit my mum, my older brother John, my sister Veronica and myself.
