AMATEUR photographer William McKnight reports that the under-threat swans at the Munnoch Dam near Ardrossan are thriving, despite the loss of one baby bird - and may even be being fed by Herald readers.

Although relatively rare in Scotland, mink are dangerous predators when it comes to other small animals, as well as birds, with the Ardrossan swans' cygnets particularly under threat.
