COUNCIL leader Willie Gibson has offered his sympathy on behalf of North Ayrshire Council to the family of Keane Wallis-Bennet – the schoolgirl killed by a collapsed wall at Liberton High School in Edinburgh last week.
At the meeting of the full council, Mr Gibson also pledged that a check of all free-standing walls would be carried out in schools across North Ayrshire.
The 12-year-old was in a changing room in the PE block at the school when a so-called “modesty wall” between showers collapsed on top of her.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council confirmed this week: “We are carrying out surveys of walls and free-standing structures in schools over the next week.
“Should any defects be noted that require immediate attention, appropriate repairs will be carried out as a matter of priority.
“Any other work will be programmed once the review is completed.”
