POLICE investigations are continuing into three fires in the North Ayrshire area in the last month, with officers unable to confirm whether two attempted murders were related or not.

There were fires in Irvine, Dalry and Kilwinning in March and April with the latter of the three being confirmed not to have been suspicious.

Police had launched an investigation after Carolann Gallagher sadly died after a blaze engulfed an address in Glenapp Place, Pennyburn back in the early hours of March 25 but this incident is no longer being treated as a suspicious fire.

Investigations continue into two fires which occurred almost a month apart - and officers are not able to rule out the possibilty that there could be a link.

The first blaze was in Seaton Terrace, Irvine, on March 14 where firefighters from Dreghorn and Kilwinning battled the blaze, using breathing apparatus.

They carried out a search and rescue operation and managed to find a woman inside who was later taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

The second incident took place in Lynn Avenue, Dalry on April 8 where a couple were forced to leap to safety from a first floor window after a fire was discovered around 11.30pm.

This was also treated as attempted murder and now, two weeks later, police are still in the investigation stage.

If anyone has any information on either of the fires they are asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity is guaranteed.
