DETAILS have been unveiled of the route the baton relay will take through North Ayrshire next month.

And each community will also get to mark the historic occasion with a variety of specially staged events.

As we detailed last week, 125 local residents will help carry the baton around the streets of our towns on Tuesday, July 15.

The baton will make its way into North Ayrshire with a special handover at Wemyss Bay railway station, before making its way to Skelmorlie, Largs, Millpoirt, Kilbirnie, Dalry, Kilwinning, Irvine, Stevenston, Saltcoats and Ardrossan.

But as well as the route itself, there will be a series of events throughout the day.

These include: Kilbirnie Public Park, 10am-12.15pm - KA Leisure Community Sport Event with come and try events and sport sessions.

Dalry Cross, 11am-12.30pm - Community fun with stalls and activities.

KA Campus, Dalry Primary School, 12noon to 2pm - workshops and sports sessions.

McGavin Park, Kilwinning, 11am to 4pm. Woodwynd Community Festival. Family Fun Day with inflatables, assault courses, zumba.

Kilwinning Community Sports Club, 12 noon to 3.30pm. Sports and activites.

Stevenston Cross, 3pm to 5pm. Musical entertainment from 3TFM radio.

Ardrossan South Beach, 3pm to 7.15pm. Sports, children’s activities, craft sessions and pre-five family fun. Live music from acts on the main stage before the baton arrives. The baton will be accepted by the Provost as it ends its tour of North Ayrshire.
