A TEENAGER had to be airlifted to hospital last week after a collision in Kilwinning between her moped and a lorry.

The 17-year-old girl, from Irvine, sustained serious head injuries in the accident last Thursday morning, September 18.

She was riding her moped near Dalgarven House Hotel in Kilwinning just before 11am when the collision with the lorry took place.

Police later confirmed she was taken by air ambulance to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to her head injuries.

They revealed that the 57-year-old male driver of the lorry was uninjured in the crash.

The road was closed until after 7pm that evening and police kept locals updated via social media.
