A TWO-TIMES cancer survivor from Beith is taking to the catwalk to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

Janet Wallace was first diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2008 after finding what she thought was a blocked milk duct in her left breast. She was 39 weeks pregnant with her first baby Sioned.

The shock news came just weeks after her mother died of lung cancer.

Janet started a course of chemotherapy a month after giving birth, but in a further double blow her marriage broke down just after she completed the treatment and she was made redundant from her job with a bank.

The 46-year-old began to put her life back together, moving from Sussex back to Beith – the love of little Sioned giving her strength.

With everything on an even keel and the cancer five years behind her, she was shocked last year to find the cancer had returned.

She began chemotherapy on June 19 last year – the fifth anniversary to the day she was first diagnosed with breast cancer and four days before her daughter’s fifth birthday.

Twelve months on she feels fit and well and is looking forward to appearing as a model in the 2014 Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show.

Janet said: “Breast cancer is scary and the treatment is severe but many women have walked down that same road and doctors have developed great treatments to help increase your chances of surviving.

“My life has changed in so many positive ways since getting breast cancer – and I know what is important in life.

“I cherish every second with my daughter and I want to live every second of life to the full.

“I have been through a lot but I’m still smiling and I’m looking forward to being a model in the fashion show as it will be a good way of rewarding myself after all my hardships.” Janet will be one of 22 models taking to the Breast Cancer Care Scotland Fashion Show catwalk at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow on November 12.
