THE Ayrshire coast was battered and bruised last Tuesday as winds of up to 70mph ravaged through the local beaches and beyond.

Once again Scotland was within reach of a hurricane as the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo took hold of much of the country.

But as wind and rain came from all angles, the sun still managed to make an appearance, perhaps confirming that Scotland can have all four seasons in just one day.

Surface water on the roads led to warnings for drivers and the MV Caledonian Isles ferry, which runs from Ardrossan to Brodick, was cancelled on Tuesday.

Operator Caledonian MacBrayne kept travellers up to date through their website and on Twitter giving detail on what was happening on all of their services throughout the country.

Surprisingly, Scotrail services were not affected in any major way during the adverse weather on the Ayrshire to Glasgow line.

Services were running as normal despite the high winds.
