A PARODY Facebook page set up to ridicule Central Ayrshire MP Brian Donohoe has more ‘likes’ than his official campaign page for the upcoming election.  ‘Brain Donohoe for Central Ayrshire’ may not jump out as a parody but if you look at the positioning of the ‘A’ and the ‘I’ in the first word, you will realise that it doesn’t say Brian.  And after hitting three-figures just days after it was launched, it would seem the people of North and South Ayrshire have either been tricked into it ... or they enjoy the way in which it ridicules the MP of over 20 years.  On the page, which has gathered over 100 supporters compared to the 32 ‘likes’ that the Central Ayrshire Labour Party Election Campaign page has, Mr Donohoe is mocked for his video which went viral last year after he was dubbed ‘The most embarrassing MP of all time’ and for the comments in the House of Commons recently.

Brain Donohoe – or the man behind the page – said: “I’m new to all this ‘socialist media’, so I hope my constituents are able to take in the content and examine it in detail.

“My nephew set me up on the Facebooks, so if the ‘other’ Donohoe wants a hand getting on the internets I’m sure he’d be happy to oblige.” Breaking character, the man behind the page –who does not wish to be named – said: “The page was set up to draw attention to some of the things that the man dubbed ‘the most embarrassing MP of all time’ has come out with.  “His staunch support for keeping nuclear weapons parked up the coast and his preoccupation with attacking travelling people are only two examples out of many.

“When our representative in Parliament uses his weekly press release to moan about not being invited to a free school dinner with the First Minister, his priorities are clearly disconnected from those of his constituents.

"With many local folk living in poverty, it’s hard to imagine Donohoe being able to empathise with them.

“When there’s a good chance he’ll be re-elected for another five years, I think any degree of public scrutiny is a good thing – especially if it spurs Brian into engaging with his constituents on social media.” Responding to the parody page on Facebook the sitting MP said: “I’d like to thank the individual who has taken the time to set this page up and give me some social media publicity.

“I myself find it quite amusing and have chuckled at a few of the posts.

“I am not afraid to have fun poked at me and certainly not from people who are plainly doing it to try and get some sort of rise out of me.

“It’s just a bit of fun and if someone wishes to take time out of their day to encourage such jovial tomfoolery, then far be it for me to rain on their parade.  “I shall stick to the more serious side of politics, representing my constituency and it’s people as best as I can and working hard to be re-elected so I can continue to represent Central Ayrshire after the election.”
