The North Ayrshire Fairtrade Zone Group have revealed they are pleased with the support it is getting during this year’s Fairtrade Fortnight 2015.

The group have highlighted that North Ayrshire Council are encouraging all of its schools to seek “Fairtrade school” status and that they have given several presentations to schools over the fortnight and the requests for help to establish Fairtrade tuck shops in schools is fantastic.

Nearly all the schools are having Fairtrade projects in their schools and wearing Fairtrade stickers.

Cunninghame House is displaying its Fairtrade Zone status banner and information is available about Fairtrade at reception.

There are also displays in Kilwinning Library and the Tournament Cafe in Eglinton Park.

All North Ayrshire faith groups are being asked to consider achieving Fairtrade status and requests for more information is being sought from the North Ayrshire Zone group.

The Zone will mark the end of Fairtrade fortnight with a  Fairtrade Coffee Morning on Saturday (March 7)  in The Erskine Hall, Lauchlan Way in Kilwinning from 10am to 12pm.

Everyone from North Ayrshire is welcome.

Following Fairtrade Fortnight the Zone will continue to support Fairtrade in North Ayrshire by helping schools, faith groups, clubs, businesses etc to support Fairtrade by buying and selling Fairtrade products.

Buying Fairtrade products (with the Fairtrade Mark) ensure that poor farmers around the globe are getting a Fair price for their products and better able to provide a decent living for their families and communities.

Joe Broussard, Chairperson for North Ayrshire Fairtrade said: “ North Ayrshire is a very young Fairtrade Zone (July 2014) but I am very impressed with how the people of North Ayrshire are taking the status seriously and enthusiastically.” If you would like more information about Fairtrade visit www.fairtrade.org.uk or contact Joe Broussard on 01294 552284 or  joe@broussard.co.uk.
