THE big election date for most people in the country is May 7 but for Ayrshire College students, May 22 is the vote they are looking forward to.

And if any student has been inspired by the campaign trails of the politicians, they still have time to put themselves forward to become one of three Student Association Presidents.

Student Presidents represent all students at the college, help them achieve their potential, and assist students if any issues arise.

Students interested in running for the full-time, paid positions need to fill out a nomination pack available at reception, student services or from the college website under the Student Association page and return it to Reception no later than 4pm on Friday, May 1.

Candidates will need to write a manifesto  and submit that to the college’s Marketing department.

There will be a series of hustings events to allow students to grill the candidates on their proposals. These will take place at the Kilwinning campus on Thursday, May 14 at 1.15pm.

Voting takes place from 9am on Monday, May 18 until 3pm on Friday, May 22. For the first time, Ayrshire College Student Association elections are going online and every student at the college will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidates via the online tool Moodle.  Election results will be announced on Friday, May 22 between 4pm and 5pm and will be posted to the college’s website and social media pages soon after.

To ensure that the election is conducted properly and fairly Head of Quality Engagement at Ayrshire College, Ann Heron, will be the official Returning Officer.

The current Student Presidents at Ayrshire College are Angela Alexander (Community Partnership), Sharon Graham (Learning and Teaching) and Emma Hall (Positive Wellbeing).
