OVER 800 Girl Guides took over Eglinton Park for the charity’s first ever festival-style camp, G in the Park.

Girlguiding Scotland held a showbiz-themed camp from July 3 - July 7 which allowed the girls to see what goes on behind the scenes and tried their hand at fun activities such as singing, dancing, stage production and stage make-up.

The nights of the event were packed with star talent as acts such as Only the Young, M.0, Model Aeroplanes, Naomi, One and Only Direction, Hometown, Murdo Mitchell, Danny Dearden, Emily Middlemas and Rewind performed exclusive sets to the Guides, aged 10-14, and the Senior Section members, aged 14-26.

Lucy, aged 11, who is a Guide at 2nd Lockerbie Guides said: “I loved going to the gigs at G in the Park and even got to meet Only the Young!

“I’ve also had the chance to try out lots of fun workshops, like stage make-up, theatre and cheerleading.

“My favourite thing about being a Guide is that we get to go on lots of trips and work on fun badges.” Sue Walker, Scottish Chief Commissioner of Girlguiding Scotland said: “It was great to see our young members letting their hair down and having fun.

"G in the Park was a brilliant opportunity for the girls to camp with their friends, see some great bands and find out for themselves about the world of showbiz!” G in the Park is just one of many great opprtunities available to girls across Scotland through guiding with girls having the opportunity to learn about stars, attempt abseiling or raft building, go camping and even travel abroad.

They are Scotland’s leading charity for girls with almost 50,000 young members and if you, or anyone you know is interested in joining, visit girlguidingscotland.org.uk.
