A STEVENSTON musician is aiming to put himself on the national stage as he takes part in a prestigious talent competition.  Liam Meighan, 22, will be taking part in Open Mic UK in Glasgow Caledonian University on October 10 and will be in the mix for the grand prize of £5,000.  Liam said: “I have decided I am singing Bridge Over Troubled Water, which is probably one of my favourite songs.

“The competition itself for me isn’t about the money it’s about the experience and chasing a dream.

“I’m a people person, I love entertaining and talking and being the life and soul of the party, my dad has been the biggest inspiration to me in music ever since I was a small boy listening to him sing and watching him and the way he sings, it really what sums up music for me.  “Open Mic UK is a national music competition with over 15,000 entries every year and has some previous winners such as Birdie, Lauren Platt, Luke Friend and Lucy Spraggan and it really speaks for itself for me.

“I see it as a big stepping stone and this year is my year, I am excited and very nervous but have so much support from my girlfriend, Claire, who makes me practice every night and my dad who gave me all the musical equipment to make it all happen.” Liam has tickets on sale for the night priced at £8 each.
