SPEED bumps near two Ardrossan primary schools have been removed and will not be returning.  As part of road repairs, the speed bumps on Dalry Road, which contains both Stanley Primary and St Peter’s Primary schools, were removed.

The decision has been made that there is sufficient speed reduction measures in place.

There were also two speed bumps on Stanley Road, which have also been removed, but these will be replaced in October, North Ayrshire Council has confirmed.

But one worried mother, who has a child at St Peter’s, said: “I feel at 8.30am those areas are busy with school children and for cars not to be made to slow down near two primary school is ridiculous.  “It will take for an accident to happen before they realise there have made a mistake.” A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council, said: “The speed bumps on Stanley Road and Dalry Road have been removed as they were in a poor condition.

“Replacement speed bumps will be installed on Stanley Road in October.

“However, after reviewing the situation at Dalry Road, a decision has been made not to replace the speed bumps at this location as there are already sufficient speed reduction systems in place – with chicanes and a mini roundabout.”
