A CHARITY night organised by an Ardrossan man to help him on a journey to South Africa to volunteer raised over £600.

Matthew Grant, 22, is heading to Durban in June for three months to volunteer.

He will be delivering educational information to schools and other local people about HIV but he had to raise £800 to get there, a target that he has smashed.

At a games night held on Saturday, April 23 at Saltcoats Bowling Club, family and friends gathered and took part in obstacle courses, balloon stomping and other fun-filled activities, raising a massive £637.

Adding to the money already raised, Matt has now smashed through the £1,000 barrier but isn’t showing any signs of stopping and plans to hold a South African theme night at the Youth Under Construction club in Kilwinning.

He said he was ‘blown away’ by the support received and he would like to thank the businesses and people who have helped get him to this stage.
