PUPILS from James Reid School in Saltcoats have raised over £250 after holding an afternoon tea in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.

The Middle Phase F children, along with Mrs McGregor, held the special event on Thursday, December 1 as part of their enterprise project.

During writing lessons they wrote letters to local community stores requesting donations of ingredients and also designed posters and promotional leaflets.

Using some of these donations the pupils made a variety of different flavoured scones, cheese, plain as well ones with Marmite.

They also made meringues and jam tarts, with help from Food and Health Skills Teacher, Miss Milne.

Stores that donated included Tesco, Saltcoats, The Kandy Bar, Saltcoats, Lidl, Stevenston, Asda, Irvine, Morrisons, Stevenston, Iceland, Saltcoats, Co-op, West Kilbride and Sainsbury’s, Saltcoats.

Mrs McGregor said: "This was a real team effort with many of the support and teaching staff helping out at the event and many of the other classes supporting it. Senior Phase A and Mrs Cunninghame who have
run many Café events in previous years, helped the class run the event.
"Some of the other classes used the event as an opportunity to run their own Enterprise Stalls and also donated some of their profits to the charity."

Middle Phase C and Classroom Assistant Mrs Singleton made tissue paper flowers for centrepieces for the event.

Middle Phase F would like to thank all the teaching and support staff for all their help in running the event as well as all the customers for their patience, waiting to be served, and their generous donations.

Middle Phase F intend to visit their local bank (Bank of Scotland, Saltcoats) to donate the money to the charity now that they have counted all their takings.

The money raised was all profit with the final total being £257.10.
