CHILDREN at Glencairn Primary School and Nursery Class are “friendly, polite and confident” and “fully engaged in the life of their school” according to the latest Inspection Report from Education Scotland.

The Stevenston school was also commended for offering a “very good range of sensory, creative and nurturing play experiences for young children in the nursery” and for its “strong inclusive ethos in which children feel safe, valued and cared for and is enabling them to thrive”.

Also noted in the report was the “strong relationships and teamwork amongst staff which are improving outcomes for children” and the “outstanding leadership of the headteacher”.

Marie McAdam, HM Inspector, concluded in the report: “We are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “We are delighted with the report from the Inspectors which commended the friendly, polite and confident children within Glencairn Primary School

“It emphasised the strong, inclusive ethos in which children feel safe, valued and cared for, enabling them to thrive.

“Education Scotland also highlighted the outstanding leadership of our head teacher, Sharon McDowell, and the strong relationships and teamwork among staff to improve outcomes for children.

“The report reflects the huge amount of hard work pupils and staff commit to on a daily basis, recognising the qualities which make Glencairn Primary an excellent place to work and learn.

“Staff at the school are grateful to the parents, carers and community partners for their continued support in creating a nurturing and caring environment.”
