STEVENSTON is set for a Domino’s Pizza store after a planning application was accepted by council officers last week.

The planned store, which will be located within the Ashenyards Retail Park alongside the Red Squirrel and KFC, has been given the green light after the application was lodged.

And two other stores are set to be housed in the retail park, with one thought to be a large Greggs the Baker.

The site has been plagued by geographical arguments since last year with both Stevenston and Kilwinning laying claim to the site but a new North Ayrshire Council sign clearly shows that it is within Stevenston.

A letter of objection was sent to council planning officers but this fell on deaf ears. The objector, whose details were redacted, said that there were too many sites within Stevenston town centre lying empty and that further units opening in the retail park would have a detrimental impact on the town.

Officers also looked at implications on the roads which have been raised in the past but said that there would be no impact on those using the road, which is situated next to the busy Pennyburn roundabout and the bypass which serves the Three Towns and Irvine.

It is unclear what the third unit will be although rumours circulating in the area point to a possible pound shop.

The Greggs has yet to be confirmed by either North Ayrshire Council or the bakers themselves but if it is the case it will be the fifth in North Ayrshire.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “A planning application was submitted for a new Domino’s Pizza outlet along with two further outlets at the roadside services development, located between Pennyburn Roundabout and the Kilwinning fire station.

“This application, which was granted approval on 16 December, is a variation on an earlier application which was previously approved for the site.”
