YOUNGSTERS at the Magnum Ice Dance and Figure Skating Club (MIDFSC) put on a dazzling display at their Christmas Showcase in Stevenston on Sunday, December 18.

Around 40 children competed in the Spiral Spin and Jump Competition, while two guest skaters – British Figure Skating Championship medallists Lana Bagen and Lewis Gibson – performed exhibition pieces.

The event, at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre, also included exhibits from the club’s 11 2016 British Championships qualifiers.

Among those were St Anthony’s Primary pupil Danniella McCormick and Lucy Martin from Kilwinning Academy, both of whom featured in the Herald recently.

The girls did exceptionally well at the championships earlier this month, with 14-year-old Lucy now ranking second in the UK within her category and Daniella at number 12 in the UK within her level. Daniella, 11, is now the only primary school pupil in North Ayrshire ranking in the top 20.

MIDFSC is currently the only club on the west coats of Scotland to be awarded Skate UK status by the National Ice Skating Association (NISA), which means that it offers teaching at the highest standards by NISA-licensed coaches.

Evelyn McGarrity, Vice President at MIDFSC, said: “They’ve all worked so hard. Skate UK is such a great programme especially for kids from this area.”
