THREE Towns pensioner Mel Porter raised £200 for Cunninghame Youth Football Club (CYFC) by shaving off his Santa Claus-style beard and hair just before Christmas.

Mel, who lives in Ardrossan, went under the razor at Jason’s Barber Shop in Saltcoats – the second time he’s gone from “Santa to slap heid” in support of a charity.

In January of last year the Herald reported that Mel had been coaxed into getting a baldy by bar staff at Kilwinning’s Buff Tavern in support of Breast Cancer Care.

The 72-year-old was inspired to do his latest fundraiser after seeing parents of boys from CYFC’s 2003 team selling raffle tickets down his local pub, The Crown.

When asked if he felt cold following his shave, Mel told the Herald: “You’re right a wiz!”

He then joked: “It’s beginning to grow back so I’ve booked in to the ladies salon next week for a perm!”

CYFC 2003s gave Mel a “massive thanks” on their Facebook page.
They posted: “I am sure all the staff and parents of Cunninghame Youth 2003s will join me in thanking Mel for his hard work and dedication for raising money for the team.”
