A YOUNG gamer from Stevenston, with the YouTube name of Dragonlord//dlyt, has attended a special Minecraft Convention as a future YouTuber.

The Glencairn Primary pupil, who wishes to be referred to as DragonLord, has played Minecraft since he was eight-years-old.

Now aged 12, the up and coming YouTuber has his own channel dedicated to the popular game and in just eight months has already clocked up 126 subscribers.

When asked what it felt like to have so many followers, the young gamer said: “Amazing.”

He also said that his friends at school “love it”, adding: “They keep me going in it and they always ask me to do new things.”

DragonLord recently attended a Minecraft convention in Peterborough as a future YouTuber.

The unofficial event is for kids and adults interested in all things Minecraft, where they get to meet and greet favourite YouTubers, buy merchandise, play the game and much more.

DragonLord’s mum, Alli McGookin, told the Herald she was “very, very proud” of her son.

She said: “I’ve been an analyst programmer for the council for many, many years so that’s probably why he’s interested in computers.

“I was really quite proud when we went down to MineVention. I was worried because he can be quite quiet but he was chatting away to adults and signing autographs for kids. He was like a different boy.

“They did a demonstration called Build Battles for the children and he was up alongside two other YouTubers – Tom Glasgow and Jaguar. Tom Glasgow’s 18 and Jaguar’s 22 but he held his own. He was in his element. They kind of took him under their wing.”

DragonLord told the Herald how he came up with his unusual YouTube moniker: “Lots of people used to call me Dragon, I don’t know why, so I looked it up but the name Dragon was already taken so I thought: ‘What would sound good with it?’ and I came up with ‘Lord’.”

Of his plans for his channel, DragonLord concluded: “I’m trying to think of a YouTube series I can do that people can get involved with.”
