A THREE Towns woman this week celebrated reaching the milestone of her 100th birthday.

And Ella Nettlefold, who was born and raised in Stevenston has been a life-long member of the Girl Guides and an avid churchgoer.

Born on March 20, 1917, in Stevenston, Ella attended school in the town before starting work at age 14.

Her dad, Thomas Hunter Hamilton died in April of 1918. Ella is a direct descendant of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the USA.

Ella married Alan Campbell Nettlefold in 1939 while he was on leave from the RAF. The pair didn’t meet again until he was demobbed at the end of World War II and they had two children, Brian and Pamela, who are pictured with their mum on her birthday.

She became Girl Guiding District Commissioner for Ardrossan.

Ella has been a member of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church Ardrossan since childhood. The Church will celebrate her birthday with a party and the previous Rector, Scott Robertson, and his wife will return for it.
