ARDROSSAN Winton Rovers Chairman Pat Breen has hit out after the club was left with a £500 bill following vandalism to the ground.

The junior football team, based at Winton Park, are in a fight for promotion but have had to put up with the off the pitch issues which have seen damage caused to areas around the ground.

Pat told the Herald that youths have been scaling the wall there and there has been damage caused to the electricity box which ensures the floodlights are working as well as damage to tables and chairs, broken glass making its way on to the pitch and severe damage to one of the boundary walls around the pitch.

Pat said “We are a community club, we try to give as much back as possible and this isn’t helping. We have guys working down here five, six and sometimes seven days a week to make sure everything is in order. We just want to nip this behaviour in the bud, we don’t want the park to become a hub for drinking or anything like that.

Police confirmed that they had received notification of damage to tables and chairs at Winton Park on April 4 and enquires are ongoing into this.

A spokesperson said: “Officers working in the Three Towns are keen to get any information about persons responsible for anti-social behaviour and vandalism and ask that persons with information contact the Locality Policing Team based at Saltcoats via the 101 number or on crime stoppers 0800 555 111. Ardrossan Winton Rovers are recognised locally as a Community club and I would ask that anyone living close to Winton Park phone in any suspicious activity or youths entering the park.”
