A MAN has been arrested after allegedly breaking in to a house in Stevenston.
Around 5.30pm on Wednesday, May 10, police were contacted by a vigilant member of the public reporting a break-in to a property on Glencairn Street, Stevenston during which a car and other property was allegedly stolen.
A short time later the vehicle was traced by police in Irvine Road, Kilwinning and the man arrested for alleged theft by housebreaking and road traffic offences including driving whilst unfit through alcohol.
Chief Inspector Brian Shaw, Area Commander in North Ayrshire, said: "This is a great example of communities working together with the police - we would like to publicly thank the member of the public for their assistance and we hope this encourages anyone who sees someone acting suspiciously to contact us immediately."
