IF you were asked, what would your priority for improvements in the Three Towns be?

Over four days in June, a Charrette for the Three Towns will take place to decide on what these priorities are and to gather ideas to bring about positive improvements across Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston.

But what is a Charrette? A Charrette is a type of community workshop that brings as many people as possible from a community into the same room to generate and test ideas based on a shared vision for improvements. People who live, work, visit, grow up or run a business here - the more people involved the better! The Charrette is funded by the Scottish Government and North Ayrshire Council and is being led by a team of engagers and designers, but the key lies in people getting involved and taking part themselves.

The best way to get involved is to come along to one of the events which all take place in Saltcoats Town Hall from the 14th-16th & 19th of June. There are free drop-in workshops from the 14th to 16th with no need to book a space. On June 19 the outcomes of the earlier events will be presented in an open exhibition running from 12pm to 7pm and discussions will focus on what the priorities should be and how to make them happen. If you can’t make it along you can keep up to date and get involved with some of the discussions online at facebook.com/threetownscharrette, the team will also be out and about in the Three Towns during the Charrette chatting to people about what is being discussed in the workshops. You can also contact Neil with any specific ideas by emailing neil@icecreamarchitecture.com or calling 0141 237 8592.

There are some big ongoing community efforts in the Three Towns along with a number of proposed investments just around the corner so it’s a good time to focus everybody’s point of view towards the future. By working together across the Three Towns we can make an active plan for how to make the most of these opportunities and bring about real improvements.
