POLICE in Saltcoats are appealing for information after a postman was robbed in Ardrossan this afternoon.

Around 12.05pm, on Wednesday 7 June, a 37-year-old man was walking in Lawson Drive in his capacity as a postman. He was approached by two men who engaged him in conversation and then forcibly took a number of letters from him. The suspects then ran off down Lawson Drive leaving the postman shaken but uninjured.

The men are described as being:

1 - A black male, 6ft tall in height, medium to heavy build, with short cropped black hair with short cropped full beard wearing a blue navy jumper and black trousers, with an English accent and 2 - a black male, 5ft 6inches in height of slim build. He was wearing a dark two piece suit with dark jumper underneath, and was softly spoken with an English accent.

Detective Sergeant Craig Semple is dealing with this enquiry. He said: "Although the man was unhurt, it was quite a frightening experience for him as he was just going about his work. Some neighbours who heard the commotion intervened to alert police and this is when the men ran off. I would like to speak to anyone who recognises the description of the men to contact police at Saltcoats quoting reference number 1543 of 7th June."
