THE Annual Ardrossan Highland Games took place at the weekend with intermittent showers doing nothing to hamper the spirits of those who turned out on the day.

Always held on the second Sunday of June, the games featured competitors from up and down the country in piping, dancing and heavy events and they did not disappoint.

As well as the events, stalls aplenty and brilliant attractions, a real sense of community always comes to the fore when the games are in town.

Chieftain Iain Sutherland, said: “What a fantastic day displaying a wonderful array of local community charities, businesses and organisations together with Pipers piping, Drummers drumming, Highland Dancers dancing, ‘Heavies’ throwing, entertainment, hospitality and visitors enjoying it all! Special thanks to the army of volunteers and the year round hard work of the organising committee who year on year make The Ardrossan Games happen for us all to enjoy.

“My day as Chieftain has been the most humbling, memorable, and heartening experience and I’m so grateful to those who nominated me. Truly an experience of a lifetime!”

Chairman of the Ardrossan Highland Games, Alastair Arnott said: “Well, what a day on Sunday, despite the odd shower and a wee bit of wind the games was a huge success.

“Many thanks to the ever hard working committee, our Chieftain Iain Sutherland, volunteers, dancers, bands, pipers, heavy athletes, stall holders, the Ardrossan Accies RFC, Police Scotland, Royal British Legion Scotland, Air Training Corp and Boys Brigade. “Also to our many sponsors and commercial supporters. And of course to the local community who braved the weather to support us once again.

“Ardrossan Highland Games will be back next year, ‘always the second Sunday in June’.”
