MEMBERS of the public are being asked for their views on plans to open a Post Office in a Saltcoats Spar shop.

The Post Office is proposing to re-open the former Adams Avenue branch at the new location as a modern, open-plan, local-style environment with extended opening hours.

PostOffice local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services and the newly named Wheatley Road branch will offer Post Office products and services throughout shop opening hours, such as an open-plan till instead of a separate screened counter. Should the move go ahead, the branch would open seven days a week, from 6am–10pm on Monday to Saturday and 7am-10pm on Sunday. This would offer 111 hours of Post Office service every week. The proposed new location is 550 metres from the previous branch, which closed in October following the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for Post Office use.

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation. The proposed move would make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open-plan environments.

Kenny Lamont, Post Office Area Manager, said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.”

The public consultation will close on Friday, August 18. Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost YOUR COMMENTS to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments@ postoffice.co.uk, via the customer helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or by textphone on 03457 22 33 55.

Customers can also share their views online through the quick and easy questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 14584399.
