A STUDENT based at Stevenston’s Chemring Energetics has triumphed at the Year in Industry Contribution to the Business (CTTB) Awards, which recognises young engineers.
Tom Stavert undertook some highly innovative work with Chemring, where he used lean manufacturing tools in order to increase efficiency and reduce waste. The success of Tom’s project led to expected labour savings of over £70K per year.
Tom scooped the Contribution to the Business Award, the Business Improvement Award, and the Environmental Award. He will now represent Scotland in the UK Future Industry Leaders Awards in September.
He said: “I have learned many useful skills, such as an understanding of lean methodologies, process improvement and other competences such as time management and communication skills. I believe that the broad range of skills I have acquired throughout this year will be of great use to me in my career in years to come.”
Chemring Energetics UK Ltd Managing Director, Stuart Cameron said “we were delighted that Tom’s contribution during his time with us was recognised as the winner of the very top award. Tom’s willingness and enthusiasm has seen the project take off extremely well and we look forward to reaping the benefits of his work. We wish Tom well on the 6th September in London and as he embarks on his study at the University of Strathclyde. It is heartening to see individuals of Tom’s calibre entering engineering in Scotland.”
