THE campaign to build a statue to honour Scottish football legend Bobby Lennox is edging ever closer new pictures have revealed.

The first stages are near completion but more donations are required to turn the dream into a reality and ensure that a constant and permanent fixture is placed in Saltcoats in honour of the feats achieved by the Celtic and Scottish legend.

Numerous events have been held over the past year to do just that and the team have been blown away by the support they have received for the campaign to build the statue for the Lisbon Lion.

Dean McMillan from the statue campaign told the Herald: “The statue is underway and we can’t thank people enough for their support to get us to this stage so quickly. But we still need funds for the statue to be completed and to pay for the plinth.

“So we have a race night which includes music and karaoke that will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 7pm in St Mary’s church hall.

“We also need people to buy horses at £5 and name them, plus we need people or businesses to buy races for £15 they get to name the race, they will need to donate a gift to the winning horse. Contact us on Facebook, twitter or email us bobbylennox1967@gmail.com.”

Tickets are £5 from the Elms bar and Cavani’s cafe.
