A COUPLE from the Three Towns were among the special guests at this year’s Queen’s Garden Party at Holyroodhouse.

Pamela and Stewart Clinton, who live in Ardrossan, attended the recent event as part of Royal Week.

The couple are both ex-military. Pamela, who is originally from Wisconsin, is a former federal security assistant. Stewart, who was born and bred in Largs and is an administration officer at Cunninghame Housing Association, was a sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy.

Pamela, 61, told the Herald: “It was really nice. They had bands that played the whole time. They opened the ruins of Holyrood Abbey. That was really nice seeing all the grave markers of all the old kings.

“We had a great time. We were freezing to death though! We got there quite early and everybody was trying to stay as dry as possible. All the women had on coats but the younger women mostly just had on shawls so they must have been really cold.

“The Queen looked in great form. One of the royal archers told us where to stand before they came out. We got a great view.

“The queen is so pretty up close. You can’t really tell so much in pictures and the TV but in real life she looks terrific. She must have been really pretty when she was young. I wish I look that good at that age!”
