THE Herald has tracked down the second pair of two sets of siblings who both share the same unusual and rare first names.

Recently we reported on the strange coincidence that occurred when Saoirse and Rohan Smyth from East Kilbride visited Saltcoats.

Eight-year-old Saoirse and Rohan, five, were visiting their grandfather John Wallace, the son of former Herald editor Archie Wallace when they bumped into another brother and sister with the same names.

The family of the other Saorsa and Roan – who live in Saltcoats – spotted our article and this week, dad Graeme Cobb contacted us.

Incredibly, the siblings are also similar in ages to their namesakes. Saorsa, who goes to Caledonia Primary, is seven and Roan is three.

Graeme said: “That was the first time that Saorsa met somebody with the same name as her.

“It’s Scots Gaelic. When we were looking for names, my wife Orla’s from Dublin and her sister suggested Saorsa, but with the other little girl’s name spelling [Saoirse].

“We liked the Scots version and it means the same in Scots Gaelic as it does in Irish – it means freedom.

“I checked the record of births and she was the only one with that spelling for the year she was born, which is pretty unique.

“She’s seven and she’s never met anyone with the same name. To come across not just another little girl with the same pronunciation of her name but with a little brother also called Rohan/Roan is just incredible. I couldn’t believe it.”
