ARDOSSAN Castle is now officially one of Scotland’s Hidden Gems.

The iconic ruin was voted one of six top sites in the Dig It 2017 Hidden Gems competition.

Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society posted on their Facebook page: “Thank you to everyone who voted, shared, tagged, talked about, and helped at all our events to promote the Castle. Once again the community has come together and we are a winner, together.

“Also many congratulations to all the competitors. Each site is looked after and promoted by groups like Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society who work tirelessly all year round on their special sites, making, discovering and sharing their stories. We appreciate how hard everyone works on their projects, as we do, and the love and passion that is put into these heritage sites so that they are protected, preserved and cherished.

“Congratulations also due to the other five winners of the Dig It 2017competition. All of these sites deserve the nationwide recognition that this competition will help give them (indeed, as all the competing sites do) and we hope they are looking forward to their future where their dreams and aspirations are realised with as much optimism, enthusiasm and anticipation as we are.”

Ardrossan Castle was named a Hidden Gem alongside the Govan Stones, the Howff in Dundee, James Watt Cottage in Bo’ness, Campbelltown Picture House, and Lindcluden Collegiate Church in Dumfries.
