A special football match took place in Largs on Sunday to raise funds for an important charity which has benefited one-year-old Dawson Lundy of Ardrossan.

Dawson, who is son of Ross and Carla, was born with a rare condition last year, where there was a hole in the diaphragm, which affects the stomach, livers and kidneys, leaving little room for the lungs to grow.

The charity is CDH - the congenital diaphragmatic hernia charity - provides vital assistance and help for children who are born with the condition, and their families.

Dawson’s dad Ross is a goalkeeper for Largs Thistle football club, and supporter Alex Anderson came up with the idea of the football fundraiser. The match was a Largs Thistle fans v Ross Lundy select. The final score at Barrfields Park was 8-5 to the Ross Lundy’s select.

Ross donned the striker’s jersey for a change and bagged four goals on the occasion. And there were some well-known football faces involved including Thistle manager Stuart Davidson, and former skipper Kevin Struthers now of Winton Rovers.

Dawson’s grandfather Bill Lundy said: “I would like to express my gratitude to Alex Anderson without his efforts and massive commitment this so worthwhile cause would not have happened. I would also commend my wife Irene and my children, Carla’s family and the Sallens family and all the others for the huge effort they have put in and I am sure a very healthy amount will be raised for this great cause: CDH.”

Ross would like to thank everyone who contributed to the raffle prizes. They included a signed picture of Moussa Dembele, - Frame by Art ‘N’ Joy, overnight stay with breakfast at the Bowfield Hotel, £100 voucher for JFK powerwashing services, midweek four ball at Shotts Golf Course, £25 voucher for Garfield’s, £25 gift card for A Scents of Scotland, Kilmarnock, Meal for two at The Salt Cot, £25 voucher for The Dressing Room, £20 voucher for The Lauriston, £20 voucher for The Corran Inn, Makeup with eyelashes from J’Adore by Michelle Young, £20 voucher for Dee Dee’s Cutz and Cut and blow dry by top stylist Brian McCallum from Roar Hair & Beauty in Glasgow.
