WHAT is thought to be the first ever wedding in Ardrossan Castle took place at the weekend.

On Saturday, Peter Semple and Sandra Gain of Irvine were married at this unique venue with the approval of North Ayrshire Council.

The Castle was inhabited between the 1100s and 1600s and some of the nobility who resided there would have had weddings but these would most likely have been held in the nearby church whose ruins are still visible.

Although there are no records to prove it, Saturday’s wedding could well have been the first in the Castle. Peter and Sandra chose the site because of its beauty and stunning views.

Emma Gillan, North Ayrshire Council registrar who conducted the service said it was a privilege to officiate at the historic event and hoped that there might be other weddings on the site.

Best wishes go to Peter and Sandra from everyone at the Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society.
