FOUR elderly people were taken to hospital following a serious road crash on the A78 at Ardrossan yesterday (Saturday, August 12).

At around 4pm a 71-year-old man was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa car north on the A78, Eglinton Road, when his vehicle collided with a silver Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction.

The 71-year-old driver of the Vauxhall Corsa and his 69-year-old female passenger were taken to Crosshouse Hospital along with the 78-year-old driver of the Ford Focus and his 69-year-old female passenger. They are all receiving medical treatment for various injuries and hospital staff describe their conditions as stable.

The Herald understands that the road was closed between the Rowan Tree and Seamill for at least a couple of hours. 

Sergeant Cat Gibbons at Irvine Road Policing Department is appealing for witnesses to the crash. She would like to speak to anyone who has not already spoken to police or anyone who has captured the crash on their dash camera.
