A SALTCOATS shopper has scooped over £900 worth of delicious produce to be donated to a local food bank thanks to ALDI’s Supermarket Sweep.

With the highest amount of £915 raised in any ALDI Scotland Supermarket Sweep to date, Tommy Duff was chosen as the winner of an in-store competition to take part in a five-minute trolley dash for charity.

As well as taking home his trolley full of goodies, ALDI matched the value of Tommy’s haul with vouchers to be donated to his nominated charity, North Ayrshire Foodbank, which is facilitated by the Church of the Nazarene in Ardrossan.

They picked this particular food bank as Sophie, Tommy’s daughter, had been volunteering with the team as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Award activity earlier in the year and has continued to do so each week in her free time.

Tommy said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won the competition, as are my family, friends, neighbours and work colleagues who have all benefitted too.

“This was an incredible experience and I’m so grateful my daughter put me forward. I’d like to thank all the ALDI staff at the store who made this possible and were so encouraging on the night.

“I am thrilled with the amount I’ve managed to raise for the food bank as I know it will make a huge difference to so many people in North Ayrshire who rely on their wonderful support.”

Graham Nicolson, Group Buying Director at ALDI in Scotland, added: “We created the ALDI Supermarket Sweep as a fun way for our shoppers to help support their local community.

“We’re very happy for Tommy and the team at North Ayrshire Foodbank who will benefit from £915 worth of ALDI vouchers to help local people in need.”
