A 48-year-old man has died after being hit by a bus yesterday afternoon in Stevenston, police have confirmed.
The man, named locally as Christopher Lawson, was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police Scotland are appealing for information following the fatal road crash.
Around 3.45pm police received a report of a male pedestrian being struck by a bus on Kilwinning Road.
Nobody else was injured during the incident.
Sergeant Kevin Blackley from the Trunk Road Policing Unit based at Irvine said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I would ask any witnesses who were in the area around the time of the crash and are yet to speak to officers to please come forward.
“Anyone with information can contact the Trunk Road Policing Unit based at Irvine via 101 and quote incident number 2210/11.”
