THOUSANDS of Three Towners lined the prom at Saltcoats Harbour for the annual fireworks extravaganza.

On Sunday evening, locals turned out in their droves to see the skies of the town lit up.

Organised by Saltcoats Councillor Jim Montgomerie, the event is always well supported with families turning out to see the fireworks and enjoy the fairground rides in the build-up.

The Herald had planned to stream the whole display live on our Facebook page but technical gremlins meant that we were unable to show the whole thing.

Jim said: “I hope everyone had a good evening and I would like to thank everyone for coming. It’s a massive event for our community. It is great to see everyone having such a good time. This is what community engagement is all about. Hopefully we will be back closer to the 5th next year.

“I didn’t have the funds to do it on the 5th this year. The company who I deal with wanted a lot more money to do it on that night. I didn’t want to use up my budget for next year because it would have possible meant not having a Display next year.

I would like to thank Bar One, Bobby’s Bar,Windy Ha, Pop Inn, North Ayrshire men’s dominoes, Clyde Coast ladies dominoes, Saltcoats Police Officers, Coastguard.

“Thanks to Kirsty Allison who done a wonderful job setting off the display, I hope you enjoyed it.

“I noticed the toilets were closed. I had asked for them to be left open. The attendant noticed me walking away and shouted me to say he had no notification of the display. He told me he would go back and open them which he did so whoever you are I really appreciate you doing that.

“We tried to do a live stream of the display, but there was technical issues with the wi-fi, it crashed. It was disappointing and I know the Morri Group who were doing it were gutted it never came off. It is just one of these things. The amount of work the boys put in to try to get a live stream was phenomenal. Thanks Guys.”
