Last Saturday, Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society and Ardrossan Christmas Decorations Committee put on a community Halloween parade for everyone to enjoy.

Over 200 people came out in the wind and rain to take part and parade participants included Scots and Gaelic verse pieces from some groups with help from Independent State of Happiness.

Stories from Ardrossan Castle’s history, myths and legends were drawn in to create the parade ideas.

There were Ardrossan spellmaster our community assets; Alison, Amanda, Christina, Paul and Damian. The original Halloween tattie bogles (turnip faces) Scot’s fairies, Scottish Serpent with whitlees centre kids inside, lantern bearers to light the way from Princes Street to the Castle Hill, the winter storm goddess and her dancers from Julie Carson’s school, Ardrossan Youth Centre Arts Group zombies, the Deil of Ardrossan by 1st Ardrossan brownies, the ghost of William Wallace, Sir Fergus of Ardrossan and his demons drama helped by Carpell Dorcha theatre company.

ACHS and ACDC would like to thank NAC funding, all the volunteers who made this event happen, all the businesses who supported the event and everyone who came out to see it and donated to their buckets. It was one amazing community team venture, a first for Halloween in Ardrossan. We hope it may be the first of many.

ACDC are now planning for the Christmas parade and lights switch on in Ardrossan on Saturday, November 25 at 4pm.

It will be the same route as the Halloween parade this year finishing at Civic Centre.
