Police are treating a large fire containing a vehicle and multiple tyres as wilful.
Fire crews were called to a report of smoke at Stevenston Industrial Estate just after 6am this morning (Saturday, November 11).
Two appliances arrived on the scene to find a 50 square-metre blaze containing multiple tyres, at least one vehicle, and a large industrial container filled with more tyres.
A spokeswoman from Police Scotland said: "Emergency services attended a report of fire in Lundholm Road, Stevenston, at around 6.15am this morning.
"On arrival they found one vehicle and some tyres alight. The fire was extinguished and the fire is being treated as wilful. Enquiries are ongoing."
A spokeswoman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said that the blaze caused thick black smoke which was visible from the road.
She added: “It was a large quantity of tyres on fire, a large area of tyres with multiple deep fires within and one large industrial refuse container with more tyres inside.”
Crews requested the attendance of a third fire appliance due to a problem with hydrants in the area. They also requested police attendance in order to ascertain ownership of the vehicle involved.
Fire crews left the scene just after 11am.
