FOURTEEN staff at Sainsbury’s in Saltcoats will lose their jobs this month. the supermarket giant has revealed.

And a further four will be transferred to posts in other stores as part of a major shake-up we revealed last month.

But sources say that as many as 18 staff will be made redundant this month after the ‘store review’.

The Herald believes that up to 18 staff will be losing their posts with a further 5 moving to other shops.

Sainsbury’s counter that claim and say that there are also six vacancies at the store at the moment.

We reported at the start of October that a consultation period was set to begin and that staff, although not managers, would face the axe along with the possibility of parts of the store changing, including the mooted removal of the deli counter at the back of the store.

It is thought that the staff will leave their posts before the end of November.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said, “We regularly review our stores to ensure we’re operating as efficiently as possible and providing our customers with the best possible service. Following a recent review and a period of consultation, we’re making some changes to our Saltcoats store. We appreciate this has been a difficult time for affected colleagues and we have been providing support.”
