A PENSIONER is fighting for his life after an attempted murder in Saltcoats yesterday evening.

The man, who is 66, was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital after an altercation after he left the Four Seasons pub in the town's Green Street around 7.30pm.

Police are treating the incident as attempted murder and the man's condition is described as critical.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 7.30pm on Tuesday, November 21, police were called to a report that a man had been seriously injured during an altercation in Green Street, Saltcoats. 

"Emergency services attended and the 66-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital where his condition is currently being described as critical. 

"The incident is being treated as attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Mick Carr said: “Extensive enquiries are underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and it is absolutely vital that anyone who witnessed what happened comes forward.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Green Street yesterday evening who saw the incident take place, or who has any information at all that may be able to assist our enquiries, to please get in touch.
