POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a North Ayrshire Council worker was assaulted in Stevenston last month.

On Wednesday, December 20, a 58-year-old male was assaulted during his employment as an Environmental Enforcement Officer

It is believed that the man challenged another male in regards to dog mess when he was assaulted.

The suspect is described as being around 35-years-old, six feet tall and slim.

He was wearing a black hat at the time of the incident.

He is also said to have been walking with two white Alsatian dogs.

Chief Inspector Brian Shaw said: “I am appealing to members of the public who may have information of the identity of this individual as I am sure that the answer lies within the community.

“It would be unusual if there are many people responsible for two white Alsatians.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson told the Herald: “We were shocked and disappointed that a member of our Streetscene team was assaulted in the course of doing their job.

“We would urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the police.”
