AN Ardrossan community centre has been given a financial boost from the Big Lottery - to the tune of £325,000.
Whitlees Community Centre announced yesterday (Tuesday) that they were to receive £324,645 for a complete upgrade of their kitchen and cafe area.
The new facilities will lead to the introduction of a healthier menu and new activities such as coffee mornings, ‘themed’ early evening meals for local adults, and tea dances for people with dementia and their carers.
The refurbishment will allow the group to establish itself as a training facility, running cooking classes and offering a wider range of work experience opportunities for local young people.
Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, Maureen McGinn, said: “I am delighted that the Ardrossan Community Association has been successful in securing a Big Lottery Fund grant.
“The funding will make a big difference where it is needed most and I wish the Ardrossan Community Association every success as it goes on to develop and expand its project for the benefit of their local community."
The Association would also like to say a big thank you to Our Place, Ardrossan for all their help with the application for funding.
