A DIRECT result of the Charrette has identified six key themes for the vision for the Three Towns.

These themes have been set out and include a combination of concepts that are already in play and some new ideas.

They are:

1. A place where the Council, businesses and community groups work together through communication and co-operation.

2. A place where centres and hubs are regarded as economic and social assets and are the focus for investment and activity.

3. An area that makes the best use of the Firth of Clyde coastline, which is the area’s most valuable natural resource.

4. A place where greenspace is looked after and becomes a key resource for the community.

5. Towns which supply an increasing proportion of their own food production – especially fruit and vegetables - through community endeavour and utilising under-used land.

6. Towns that are proud to promote their history and assets, keen to change perceptions of the area and encourage new business, visitors and in-migration.

These six themes come from 60 ideas that were put forward during the four-day Charrette workshops in the Town Hall in Saltcoats.

Included in the key themes were points were important points that ‘affect all towns’ and would be looked at if possible.

They included to establish a parking management scheme for town centres and seafront, improve fabric of buildings, find uses for empty retail units, improve signage promoting local assets and give visitors a reason to visit the towns and motivate local people to use their town centres.
